Quilts for Chimney Rock and Bat Cave from From My Carolina Home

Last Friday, I loaded up the car with quilts from those received by my quilt guild, Western North Carolina Quilters Guild, along with more from some dear readers. I had made contact with a church in Bat Cave, and arranged to meet at a Lake Lure grocery store to give her some quilts for her fellow parishioners. A fellow guild member had made contact with the Chimney Rock Fire Chief, and he met us at the same grocery store to escort us into the restricted area of Chimney Rock.

Sarah Grey, the secretary for the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration ...

WHY CHARITY QUILTS HAPPEN! from Kwilty Pleasures

There are many reasons WHY Charity quilts happen.

I'm gonna tell you how they happens in MY sewing room.

I begin a project and then loose interest or just don't like how it's coming together.
For instance, I can’t even remember when I began working on this Plaidish 2 quilt!
I thought using up my OSU Buckeyes scraps would be the thing to do.
Add a bit of red, black and gray…TOUCHDOWN!

And I tried I really did!
Draggin it back and forth to several quilt retreats.

Then the lightbulb went off!
I just wasn ...

PATTERN TEST - HOLDONG HEARTS from Kwilty Pleasures

I love to
Pattern test for Corrine Wells at
Frannie B Quilt Comoany!

I recently tested this pattern…
I needed it to fit the perimeters of my charity quilts
for Stitching Sisters.

I wasn’t crazy about the small hearts or
Setting the blocks on point.

I cut and labeled the pieces I would use for the various blocks.
I am using fabrics I got from the Stitching Sisters stash.

Fabrics sorted and labeled for 3 blocks

Block A

Block B

Block C

Because there were a lot of pieces that needed diagonal line sewing
I used my handy dandy ...

PEACE OUT ! from Kwilty Pleasures

I just finished a pattern test for Frannie B Quilt Company.

One of the best thngs aobut testing for Corinne Wells is...
she allows me to do what I need to do
to make the quilt better suited for charity.

Sew for this I didn't do the Peace Sign or Hearts
on the quilt.

But I was able to sufficiently provide feedback
that she always appreciates.

This top will go to Stitching Sisters here in CBUS.
We make lapquilts for cancer patients.
They have a sewing center and I pick fabrics from
their huge stash....donations from others.

These ...

IT'S AN EDIT-ORIAL TEST PATTERN from Kwilty Pleasures

Another pattern test, Another Charity Quilt!
I love pattern testing AND paying it forward!

This was my recent pattern test!

My favorite quit charity is Stitching Sisters
Columbus OH

A huge effort that to date has made and disturbuted
39,000 quilts, yep three zeros!

At their sewing center I shop their stash
to make the lap size quilts.
I thought this pattern would be a great
Red, white (cream) and blue color combo!

The Editorial Quilt pattern is Jelly Roll friendly,
But I cut strips from FQs.

Strip sets were quick to make.

Blocks appeared just as fast!

Project Linus Quilts and Baking Day from From My Carolina Home

With Stashbusters check in coming on Friday, I needed to get these Project Linus quilts done. I’m going to have quite a bit of “fabric in” this month! It was a beautiful day when I loaded the second one onto the longarm frame. So, I opened all the windows to let in the fresh air while I quilted.

I used the same pantograph on both quilts, a flowing curve called Fascination.

The first Beatrix Potter / Mother Goose quilt had a backing of bright yellow and green. I used the remnants to make the binding, and applied it to the ...

Project Linus Inspiration from From My Carolina Home

I had a day free on Tuesday, and it was a rainy day, perfect for hiding out in my basement and putting thread into fabric. I have had a total lack of inspiration lately, and I think it is because I just don’t need anything for myself or for a gift. So I turned my attention to charity, as this often can get me rolling again. I haven’t made anything for Project Linus in over a year, and I had a pile of children’s prints that needed using up. I pulled out the bag and set to ...

Cradle Quilts Update from From My Carolina Home

This past week, I was able to move other projects along and find a day to make a few cradle quilts. I combed through some of my project bags with leftover bits from other projects, like this one with HSTs left over from Scrap Dance Quadrille. I had enough to do some pinwheel blocks.

I sewed the pinwheel blocks, practicing my seaming through the ‘x’ for sharp points.

Adding some large yellow squares, I laid out the elements for web method construction.

This makes the assembly go very fast.

In short order, I had the block done.

Pulling another bag ...

Gardening, Quilting, and a few more things from From My Carolina Home

With all the posts I have this month set to be quilt alongs, Stashbusters, Safelight project, and more, Sundays are the only time to catch up on everything else. Go get another cuppa (of whatever your cup contains in the morning) and settle in for a long, chatty and picture heavy post. This warm weather is continuing to bring out the spring flowers early. This week, the Japanese cherry next to the meadow and the forest edge burst into bloom with beautiful pale pink flowers.

The tree is small, but stands out against the still winter scene of the forest ...

STITCHING FOR THE SISTERS from Kwilty Pleasures

I love my volunteer work with The Stitching Sisters
We make lap quilts for patients going thru chemo treatments
at the James OSU Hospitals in Columbus OH.

The director, Joanne Lester, is on the left, me on the right!

I do a lot of my charity work for them at home.

I found 20+ Trip Around The World blocks..
I stated these about 10 years ago…
time to send them on to be used.

I brought this fabric home from the center and made a kit.
Someone else will piece it and another
will quilt it and someone else will ...

Sunday Chat from From My Carolina Home

This week has just been so busy, with car club events, playing pickleball, quilt meetings and lunch with friends. It is no wonder that I have little accomplished in the sewing and crafting room for the week. On Thursday, I went to a quilt area meeting then stopped by the Quilts of Valor sew day. I picked up this fabulous top, batting and backing that I’ll quilt for them. This striking eagles panel is surrounded by pieced blocks.

I did manage to get it loaded on the longarm, and I’ll show you the quilting when it is done ...

CHARITY SEWING 2021 from Kwilty Pleasures

I kicked off 2021 by sewing lots of quilts tops from my stash.
2020 gave me lots of time to rethink where and how
I will spend my volunteer time in 2021!
The Stitching Sisters is a local Columbus OH group that
I have been involved with, on and off, for many, many years.
My best friend who fought breast cancer in 2020 (now in remission)
received one of their quilts.  I decided it was time for me to
get back and give back to them.
You can read about the Stitching Sister's efforts here.

I had lots of ...

Quilting for Hands 2 Help from From My Carolina Home

Hands2Help is an annual charity quilt drive hosted by Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  I’ve been a participant for several years, making quilts in various sizes as needed.  Two years ago, my own charity drive for the Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project was a recipient of quilts from Sarah’s event.  This year, it came up while I was working on other projects, but with the lockdown I could sneak in a quick quilt using one of those darling ABC panels I love so much.  I pulled one out, loaded it on the longarm and got to work ...

Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge 2020!! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

"What does love look like?
It has the hands to help others.
It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy.
It has eyes to see misery and want.
It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men.
That is what love looks like."

Hi, all!

It seems fitting that with all the turmoil and confusion in the world these days, one thing is constant - the desire of quilters to make quilts to comfort those in need. So there's really no better time for us to join together once again than right now, when ...

Easy Preemie Baby Quilt from Jelly Roll Strips from Mulberry Patch Quilts

I’m participating again this year in Project Quilting, and this week’s Season 11.5 challenge is “Give It Away”. TRISH we must be on the same wavelength (LOL)!! Just the week before the challenge I made ten baby quilts for one of my favorite charities, Mikayla’s Grace! What are the chances? See that blog post here.

BUT those quilts won’t count for entry into this week’s challenge. The rules clearly state the quilt has to be made–beginning to end–during the challenge week. That’s not a problem… I see by their website that ...

Charity Quilts from Leftover Blocks from Mulberry Patch Quilts

Every year I like to make little quilts or knit tiny hats for Mikayla’s Grace. So when they put out an urgent request for specific needs, I signed up to fill the need for 10 medium size baby quilts to support families with small infants in the NICU (Neonatal ICU).

I had some leftover quilt blocks that worked perfectly for the center of each quilt. The “Fantasy Folk Art” fabrics by Contempo (Bernatex) are so beautiful, and I had enough coordinating fabric for the extra borders..

It’s a snap to figure out the math using EQ8 (Electric Quilt ...
